Will the “big one” finally make California an island? Will the Hanson boys hook up with the Spice Girls? Who will win the french fries war - Burger King or McDonald’s?

Dec. 8 question:

Do you have a special holiday tradition?

“My family has a holiday tradition of going out for Chinese food on Christmas Eve.” - Paul Spangler, Ferris High

“At Christmas, dinner is nothing big. The Christmas breakfast, that’s the huge deal.” - Alexander Fern, Northwood junior high

Every year the whole extended family from our great grandmother down gets together for several days. One of my great aunts has a seafood pigout. Another great aunt sponsors a skating or sledding party, depending on which is better, the ice or the snow. Another aunt organizes a sleigh ride. One night we go caroling. One day all the boys go snow camping. They go out in the forest and build a snow cave. On Christmas Eve, all of those people get together at my grandmother’s house and we exchange presents. Before we do, we sing every Christmas carol there ever was. All the kids do recitals of poems or carols and at the end we do a drawing for the 12 days of Christmas. The person gets the gift from the song and then gets to sing that part. Of course there’s always a war over who gets the five golden rings. It’s been like this ever since I was a little kid.” - Wendy Auld, Sandpoint High teacher
