Valley Woman To Run For Seat In State House
Lynn Schindler, a conservative touting cuts in taxes and reduced government interference, will run for state Rep. Mark Sterk’s 4th Legislative District seat in the House of Representatives next fall.
Schindler, 53, also plans to seek appointment to Sterk’s House seat if the Republican steps down early - as he has said he will - during the upcoming legislative session. Sterk, a Spokane police officer, has announced plans to run for Spokane County sheriff.
Schindler, who would represent the Spokane Valley, has been active in local Republican groups but never has held public office.
The Otis Orchards woman is a former vice chairman of the Spokane County Republican Party and served as chairman of state Sen. Bob McCaslin’s 1996 re-election campaign.
A mother of 10 who is home-schooling the two youngest, Schindler says the state needs to look closely at the results its schools are producing. She supports additional reductions in the state’s business and occupation tax and believes the vehicle excise tax must be cut. She also would like to see less public reliance on government programs such as welfare and the Basic Health Plan for the poor.
Schindler is the first 4th District candidate seeking Sterk’s position to file public disclosure forms with the county elections office. Official filing for the seat won’t open until July. , DataTimes
