Christmas Fund 1997 Tradition Of Giving Comes From Everyone

Spokane is a city of diversity - with everyone of every color and faith caring for his or her neighbors, as witnessed by the gifts for The Spokesman-Review Christmas Fund.

Members of the South Asia Cultural Association are of various religious faiths, yet share the common bond of humanity, wrote Prakash Bhuta, president.

“Our members have come from great distances to make a living, often leaving behind our loved ones and family members.”

Still, they want to remember others in their new community who are struggling, and sent a gift of $100.

Other contributions of $100 came from:

Kent and Jackie Richardson, 3720 W. Rutter Parkway; the Cheney Firefighters, Local 1919; the Robinsons, 214 W. Hawthorne Road; members of the Social Ministries Committee of Our Lady of Fatima Roman Catholic Church, 1517 E. 33rd, who previously gave $100.

Second Wind Production, Sound Reinforcement Systems, Spokane; Bill and Sharon Harris, 1421 N. Laura; the Spokane Retired Police and Spouses Association; Peggy and Dan Jeremiah, Spokane; Yvonne and Jeff Trudeau, 1024 E. 40th; Thomas and Claudia Mays in memory of Anne Knott.

One anonymous donor doubled this year’s contribution, since he was hospitalized last year and “unable to hold a pen in my hand, much less write a check.”

Now, that’s faithfulness.
