Here Are Actions Police Recommend
What should neighbors do when a sex offender moves in? Spokane Police detectives suggest the following:
Consult with your neighborhood Block Watch representative.
If you have children, explain to them why you want them to stay away from this person and the house where he or she lives. Show them the notification flier picture of the offender.
Tell your children to walk away if the sex offender tries to talk to them and to tell you about the contact.
Watch for any suspicious activities and call police if you feel you have something to report.
Have a neighborhood representative advise the offender in a non-threatening manner that the neighborhood knows who he/ she is and request that he/she stay away from the neighborhood children.
Spokane Police Detective Jerry Keller added that parents shouldn’t harass or intimidate the offender. It creates additional tension in the neighborhood, he said.
If you and your neighbors have additional concerns and would like to set up a meeting with police detectives, call the Police Department to set up a time to address neighborhood questions and concerns.
