Montana Wants To Boost Elk Hunt

Associated Press

In an effort to thin Montana’s elk population, state wildlife commissioners have proposed several changes in hunting regulations.

Commissioners want to replace permits for antlerless elk with either-sex permits in much of southwestern Montana’s Region 3.

The commission has also proposed allowing hunters along the Idaho border to start harvesting elk six days before the general season, before the animals enter Idaho. Other changes have been proposed for specific hunting districts.
