Reign Lose Again
Sheri Sam scored 25 points to lead the San Jose Lasers to an 84-75 ABL victory over the Seattle Reign in San Jose, Calif.
The victory was the eighth straight for San Jose (14-13), tying the longest winning streak in the ABL this season. Seattle (6-20) dropped its ninth straight and hasn’t won since Nov. 28.
Jennifer Azzi scored 18 points for the Lasers and Kedra Holland-Corn added 11 points and a career-high six steals.
Shalonda Enis led the Reign with 25 points. Kate Starbird added 17 and Angela Aycock had 11.
Dale Hodges scored six of her 16 points in an 18-1 run in the third quarter, helping the New England Blizzard to a 68-62 victory over the Columbus Quest at Hartford, Conn.
The teams played before an audience of 11,581, the third-largest crowd in ABL history.
Kara Wolters’ layup and Jennifer Rizzotti’s three-point shot capped an 18-1 second-half run, which gave New England a 50-45 lead.
Carolyn Jones, Hodges and Wolters each hit two free throws in the final 41 seconds to enable the Blizzard to hand Columbus its first back-to-back losses of the season.
Wolters came off the bench to score 17 points and get 10 rebounds.
At Atlanta, Taj McWilliams scored a season-high 20 points as the Philadelphia Rage overcame an 11-point haltfime deficit and defeated the Atlanta Glory 75-70.
Adrienne Goodson added 18 points and 10 rebounds for the Rage, who trailed 38-27 at intermission.
Rookie Saudia Roundtree led the Glory with 21 points, including a career-high four 3-pointers.
Stacey Lovelace added 18 points for Atlanta.
At Portland, Yolanda Griffith scored 22 points to lead the Long Beach StingRays to a 77-72 victory over the Portland Power.
Griffith made 9 of 13 shots from the field and added four steals and two blocks. Trisha Stafford had 13 points and Venus Lacy and Niesa Johnson had 12 apiece for the StingRays.
Natalie Williams had 18 points and 12 rebounds, and Lisa Harrison added 14 points for the Power.
