Boise State’s Balanced Attack Too Much For Eastern

Kelli Lewis scored 16 points and four teammates joined her in double figures Sunday as Boise State University thumped Eastern Washington 85-55 in a non-conference women’s basketball game at Boise.

The Broncos (5-6) shot almost 50 percent and had little trouble defeating the Eagles (2-6) after opening up a 44-16 halftime lead.

Yvene Barrios scored 13 points for Boise State, one more than Kim Brydges and Reyna Fortenberry. Tawrya Gray scored 10. All but Brydges are guards.

Boise State made 34 of 69 field-goal attempts for 49.3 percent. EWU, which made only 6 of 23 shots before the intermission, made 20 of 48 for the game for 41.7 percent.

Carrie Waddell and Courtney Horn scored 11 and 10 points, respectively, for Eastern. Julie Carlson scored nine and grabbed 10 rebounds.

EWU was handicapped by its 31 turnovers, eight of them by Waddell, the freshman point guard from Lakeside High School of Nine Mile Falls.
