Kansas State coach Tom Asbury knew what would happen if his team gave No. 8 Arizona even a little bit of breathing room.

“They’ll destroy you and that’s exactly what they did,” Asbury lamented after Arizona gave his team its first loss of the season, 125-87 Tuesday night in the championship game of the Fiesta Bowl in Tucson.

Arizona (9-3) scored the first 27 points of the second half.

“I think defensively we really made it difficult for Kansas State to run their offense,” Arizona coach Lute Olson said. “We did a better job of creating turnovers than we did a good job of converting.”
