Retired Execs Offering Small-Business Workshop

Volunteers from SCORE (Service Corps of Retired Executives) will conduct a six-hour introductory workshop next week for present and prospective small business owners.

Topics include required licenses, recordkeeping, insurance, financing and business planning.

The workshop will be Friday from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Spokane Valley Chamber of Commerce, 8817 E. Mission.

Program brochures are available at the chamber office and at Valley banks.

Advance registration is requested. Call 353-2820. Admission is $35 and includes lunch.

SCORE is a nationwide organization of over 13,000 volunteers providing free business counseling for those in business or those interested in small business ownership.

Dermatologist opens office

Dermatologist Elizabeth Vennos, M.D. has opened an office across from Valley Hospital and Medical Center.

Vennos received her medical degree from Georgetown University in 1988. She completed her specialty training at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Maryland. She is a board certified dermatologist.

The office is located at 12615 E. Mission, Suite 202.

New steakhouse to open

A Cut Above Steakhouse and Lounge is almost ready to open in the former location of Makena’s restaurant, 11723 E. Sprague.

Steakhouse owner Melodee Weber, who owns another similar restaurant in Fairbanks, Alaska, said customers can expect very hearty meals when the eatery opens.

“We’re going to do big steak, big seafood,” she said.

Weber said the restaurant would open next week, but she would not say what day. A Cut Above will be open 7 days a week for lunch and dinner, she said. Weber said hours of operation have not yet been set.
