Broadmoor Rated 5-Star For 37th Year

Scripps-Mcclatchy

Mobil Travel Guides has awarded The Broadmoor hotel in Colorado Springs its hallowed five-star rating for the 37th year in a row - the longest-running streak in the industry.

“It’s not a slam dunk by any means,” said Steve Bartolin, president of The Broadmoor.

“Our competition gets better. The requirements go up. It’s a challenge we try to meet every year.”

Mobil selected The Broadmoor from 20,000 lodges and resorts throughout the country. The resort opened in 1918 at the foot of Pikes Peak, and today offers three golf courses, a state-of-the-art fitness spa and several top-notch restaurants.

During peak season the resort has a staff of 1,700 for guests in 700 rooms.

“There’s a lot of things that go into a five-star rating, but it’s got to be people that make the difference,” Bartolin said. “We emphasize the quality of the people even more than the quality of the facilities.”

The Broadmoor is one of only 25 hotels on the Mobil list, which includes Seattle’s Four Seasons Olympic Hotel. The Coeur d’Alene Resort on the Lake earned four stars, as did Sun Mountain Lodge in Winthrop.

Mobil’s five-star rating is one of the highest honors in the hotel industry. Even a mention in the Mobil Travel Guide will keep the reservation line ringing.
