Lynn Archibald Splits His Loyalties

Lynn Archibald said it was a tough call, rooting for Arizona State or Washington State.

His son Beau is a freshman guard for the Cougars. But Archibald was an assistant on Bill Frieder’s first staff at ASU in 1989, and stayed five years.

“I want Beau to do well, but my heart’s with ASU,” Archibald said before Saturday’s game. “This is a game that could get Frieder over the top. When you know what’s taken place, the suffering, you grow even more attached. I know what they’ve gone through. But Frieder made it fun, fun for all of us.”

Beau Archibald helped lead Tempe Corona del Sol to the Arizona state championship as a junior before his family moved to Utah.
