Schweitzer Resort Hosts Elderhostel

In March, Schweitzer Mountain Resort will host its first Winter Elderhostel.

Students - all at least age 55 - will stay at the Green Gables Lodge on the mountain and take seminars in the history of Bonner County, winter ecology and in skiing, March 9-14.

Elderhostel is an international non-profit program providing educational adventures for seniors.

Cruise the Sound any time

Those who see a lot of cruising around Puget Sound in their futures can buy an annual pass for Argosy Cruises, good for public cruises of Seattle Harbor, the Hiram Chittenden Locks to Lake Union, and Lake Washington.

A two-person annual pass is $85, which would pay for itself in three cruises. Reservations are not necessary. Passes are available from the Argosy ticket booths at Piers 55 and 57 in downtown Seattle, or by calling (206) 623-1445.

Singing out in Seattle

It’s a ways off Broadway, but all summer long the musical “Seattle! Musical Tales from the Great Northwest” will be staged at the Museum of History and Industry in Seattle.

The 75-minute production captures 200 years of the pioneering spirit of the Northwest through original songs and dance.

The musical will be presented 10 to 14 times a week June 19 through August. Tickets are $16.95 and include admission to the museum exhibits, available in advance by calling (206) 292-ARTS.

Destination Oregon

The Field Excursions program sponsored by the High Desert Museum in Bend, Ore., includes guided trips in Eastern Oregon as well as excursions along the Alaska coast and in Mexico’s Copper Canyon.

Those wanting to explore Eastern Oregon can trek with llamas through Hells Canyon, float the John Day River or cruise the route of of the Lewis and Clark Expedition on the Columbia and Snake Rivers.
