Clear Skies Ease Flooding
Clear skies and receding rivers are giving disaster relief workers an upper hand in their effort to shore up levees and clean away mudslides in Southwest Idaho.
Flood alerts for Boise, Payette and Gem counties were called off at noon Saturday by the National Weather Service.
The Payette River, which swelled to 10,779 cubic feet per second Saturday morning, was down to 7,100 cubic feet per second later in the day.
Flooding along the Boise River, however, brought evacuation of about 100 people from an R.V. trailer park near Caldwell Friday night.
Law enforcement officials and volunteers helped move about 30 trailers to high ground as water swept over a low part of the levee, Canyon County Sheriff George Nourse said.
Forecasts through Tuesday call for partly cloudy skies, with lows in the 20s and highs in the 40s.
Corps of Engineers spokesman Dutch Meier said the weather has made it easier for people cleaning up damage from January’s floods.
