Council To Discuss Legislative Priorities
Expanding the convention center and enhancing economic development top the list of issues the Spokane City Council wants state lawmakers to address this year.
Council members will discuss their legislative agenda during tonight’s meeting.
The council wants state money to build a health sciences building on the Riverpoint campus and expand Cheney Cowles Museum. Council members also intend to ask legislators to find a permanent funding source for street maintenance.
Also tonight, the council will consider a $1.8 million contract with Washington Water Power Co. to burn nearly 92,000 tons of ice storm debris at the company’s Kettle Falls wood waste plant.
The council will consider plans for phase one of the $3.9 million Yardley sewer project.
Nearly $2.5 million of the project will be paid for with state and federal dollars. The balance will come from a local improvement district that includes 231 parcels.
A briefing for the council begins at 3:30 p.m. in the lower-level conference room of City Hall, 808 W. Spokane Falls Blvd. The meeting starts at 6 p.m.
