Jones Keys Whitworth Victory

Gabe Jones scored 28 points, dished out 10 assists and grabbed seven rebounds to lead Whitworth to a 98-84 victory over Whitman in a Northwest Conference of Independent Colleges men’s basketball game on Tuesday.

Leading 81-75 with 6:33 left, the Pirates (15-4, 8-3 NCIC) used a 9-0 spurt to put the game away.

Nate Williams added 15 points for Whitworth, which hosts George Fox on Saturday night. Greg Jones and Jeff Mix each added 11 points.

Jen Tissue and Sherri Northington added 12 points apiece for Whitworth, which led by 15 at halftime.

Whitman, led by Amanda Bradford’s 20 points and 13 rebounds, twice drew within 11 points in the second half.

Whitworth plays at home against George Fox on Saturday.
