Tanja Gohlert Participating In Student Research Program

Tanja Gohlert has been selected to participate in the program Student Research in Departments at Smith College in Northampton, Mass. The program allows freshmen and sophomores to research one-on-one with faculty members.

Gohlert will research the Japanese Constitution.

A graduate of St. George’s High School, she is the daughter of Ernst and Heide Gohlert, Cheney.

Monica Shelly has been named director of philanthropy of Alpha Phi Sorority at the University of Washington.

Shelly, daughter of Ron and Evie Rohling, is a 1996 graduate of Joel E. Ferris High School.

Air Force Airman Christopher Price, son of Joanne Elliott, Spokane, has graduated from the security apprentice course at the Air Force Security Police Academy, San Antonio, Texas.

Rachel Hufman, Leavenworth; Wash., Caroline Lynch, Ritzville, Wash.; and Andrea Nelson, Garfield, Wash., earned scholastic achievement recognition during Washington’s Junior Miss program.

Lynette Portch, Grand Coulee, was selected by the contestants for the Spirit Award.

Terry Umbreit, director of the Hotel and Restaurant Administration at Washington State University, was named a trustee for the Educational Institute of the American Hotel and Motel Association.

Umbreit has been a WSU faculty member since 1975 and director since 1984.

Two Spokane-area students have been to the Dean’s List at Hamline University’s College of Liberal Arts in St. Paul, Minn.: Jennifer Adams, daughter of William and Vivian Adams, Spokane, and Gretchen Rapp, daughter of Dennis and Irene Rapp, Veradale.

Students must achieve a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.
