Tree Removal To Begin Monday For Division Widening Project
Motorists could face lane closures Monday as crews begin preliminary work on widening another section of Division Street.
The $2.2 million widening work will be done between Queen and Francis.
Crews will remove trees to make room for two new lanes. That removal is expected to take a few days, according to the state Department of Transportation.
Early next month, relocation of utilities and installation of temporary traffic signals will begin.
The Transportation Department expects actual road work to begin in early April with grinding, removal of traffic islands and paving.
The widening work will start with the addition of a northbound lane, then one going south. New curbs and sidewalks also will be built.
The project is expected to be completed by fall.
Acme Materials and Construction of Spokane is the prime contractor.
The first stage of the $35 million Division Street improvement project involved building the Ruby Street couplet from North River Drive to Euclid. That was opened in July 1994. The second stage involved construction of two additional lanes from Euclid to Wellesley, completed last July.
