At stake: Top four finishers in each weight qualify for Mat Classic IX in Tacoma.

Returning champions: Brian Lehrman (Lewis and Clark), 108; Aaron Mann (Richland), 122, first in state at 115, 1996; Andy Roberts (University), 129, first in state at 129, 1996; Eric Gust (Wen.), 215.

Others to watch: Cory Brannon (Gonzaga Prep), 122, two-time state placer, first in state 1995; Jon Rugan (Mead), 115, second at state 1995 and 1996; Shane Cunanan (CV), two-time state placer, including third in 1995; Ramon Iniquez (Wen.), 135, state runner-up 1996; Jeremiah Stilley (Davis), 148, third in state 1996; Jared Osborn (U-Hi), 115, third in state 1996. All told, 16 state placers return.
