New Software Helps Farmers Analyze Crp
Washington State University Cooperative Extension said Thursday that it is releasing new computer software to help farmers decide if they should enroll in the federal Conservation Reserve Program.
The software is designed to help producers analyze the economics of enrolling land in the popular land set-aside program vs. returning it to crop production, said Gayle Willett, WSU extension agricultural economist.
Inland Northwest landowners in March must decide whether to re-enroll thousands of acres of environmentally sensitive cropland in CRP. The program pays an annual rent to farmers who idle the land.
“CRP Economics-MCP0027” is DOS-based software with a Lotus template that requires no spread sheet program to run it.
It can be ordered by calling WSU publications office at 509-335-2857. The cost is $30.50, including shipping and sales tax. Callers must specify the size of floppy disk required. , DataTimes
