Hanford Waste Dump Getting Environmental Review
Two Washington state agencies will do an environmental review of the commercial low-level radioactive waste disposal facility at the Hanford Nuclear Reservation.
The site is operated by U.S. Ecology, Inc., and accepts low-radiation wastes from nuclear power plants, hospitals, schools, factories and government operations.
“This decision does not reflect concerns about current operations,” said John Erickson of the state Department of Health, in a statement Sunday.
The state Department of Ecology will also participate in the review.
