Keiko’s Slams Into Window Force Temporary End To Visitors

From Staff And Wire Reports

Keiko the killer whale will be off limits to visitors at the Oregon Coast Aquarium at least until Tuesday as trainers work on his behavior.

Keiko recently has been butting his head against a viewing window.

The behavior is intermittent and is not worsening, trainers say, but it is potentially harmful to the orca.

Visitors, by reacting to Keiko with nods, gestures and other responses, may be unwittingly contributing to, or reinforcing, the behavior.

Keiko’s viewing gallery will be closed while staff work to refocus his behavior.
