Candle Starts Fire, Burns Man

From Staff Reports

A Spokane man received first- and second-degree burns after a candle set his couch on fire Wednesday night, firefighters said.

A candle burning on an end table in a house at 1811 W. Augusta ignited the sofa about 8:35 p.m.

The man, who wasn’t identified, was burned on his hands and arms as he tried to put out the blaze with a blanket, said Capt. Mike Epler of the Spokane Fire Department.

The victim and a woman who lives in the house ran outside as the flames spread.

Firefighters snuffed the blaze with a portable extinguisher and treated the man for his injuries. , DataTimes
