Alpine skiing

The 10th-annual Sheimo Cup, a citizens dual slalom to benefit the 49 Degrees North race team, is Saturday. Registration at 9:30 a.m., racing begins at 11 a.m. Info: (509) 935-6649 ext 8

Nordic skiing

The Methow Valley Ski Team is hosting a fund-raiser this weekend, with skiing, music and barbecue. Info: (509) 996-2752.

Trail conditions near Winthrop in the Methow Valley remain good; 30-50 inches of coverage, regular grooming. Info: (509) 996-3287

Grooming at the Mt. Spokane Nordic Trails, which had threatened to end this week, has been extended until March 16 after $1,900 in donations came in over two days. With new snow overnight, park rangers say conditions are “absolutely perfect.”

The Panhandle Nordic Club meets at 8:45 a.m. Saturday at Ron’s Thrift in Hayden Lake. From there, they’ll carpool to Schweitzer. Info: (208) 765-5086. Also: the club plays “Hide-The-Beacon” on Sunday in an avalanche safety course at Lookout Pass. Meet at Fernan Ranger Station at 9 a.m. Non-members welcome.

Snowmobiling

After 5 inches of new snow fell overnight, snowmobiling conditions at Mt.

Spokane State Park are excellent. Watch out for alpine skiers poaching lines on the sunny south-facing slopes and connecting trails.

Rangers expect grooming to continue until the end of March at Priest Lake. After 8 inches fell yesterday at lake elevation - “and lord knows how much in the mountains,” according to one local - trails on the western shore were groomed first on Thursday; grooming on the eastern side of the lake continues Friday.
