Area Students Earn Place On Nnc’s Dean’s List
The following Inland Northwest students attending Northwest Nazarene College were named to the Dean’s List for the first term:
Sarah Anderson, Ryan Fievez, Jaclyn Luhn, Casey Lund, Shayna Lund, Erika McCray, Nathan Shafer, Shawn Shafer and Eric Shafer, all of Spokane.
Debra Miller, Chewelah, Wash., and Daniel Getz, Cheney.
A minimum grade-point average of 3.5 of a possible 4.0 is required to make the Dean’s List.
James Jundt, Minneapolis, has been elected chairman of the Gonzaga University board of trustees.
Other newly elected officers are Harry Sladich, Spokane, secretary; and Professor Kevin Waters, S.J., to a first term to replace Associate Professor Steve Kuder, S.J., whose term is completed the end of January.
Chet Chastek, Spokane, was appointed regent emeritus.
Mandi Klug has received a full gymnastics scholarship to the University of Washington. Klug is one of Spokane’s Northwest Gymnastics Association Level 10 gymnasts. UW’s coach, Bob Levesque, offered Klug the scholarship in July, the earliest he has ever offered a scholarship to an incoming freshman.
Coast Guard Seaman Apprentice Heidi Funkhouser, daughter of Clinton Funkhouser, Spokane, received the marksmanship ribbon as she graduated from recruit training.
Funkhouser is a 1995 graduate of East Valley High School.
The University of Idaho Alumni Association awarded two Spokane-area students with Alumni Awards for Excellence in recognition of scholarship and activities: Luke Henderson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Tim Henderson, Spokane, is a music and classical studies major; and Jennifer Tesch, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Norma Tesch, Veradale, is an elementary education major.
Brenda Busch, a 1991 graduate of Mead High School, graduated from Florida International University with a degree in print journalism.
Amanda S. Newman, whose pen name is Amanda Hively, Spokane, had her poem, “The Past of Yesterday,” published in the book, “Amidst the Splendor,” compiled by The National Library of Poetry.
