Indians Opener Set For Spokane

Salem-Keizer’s first Northwest League baseball games will also be the Spokane Indians’ first home-opening series in six years.

The Indians announced Wednesday that their short-season Class A season will begin June 17 at Seafirst Stadium with a five-game home series against Salem-Keizer, the newest NWL team. Spokane’s last season opener at home was played against Yakima in 1991.

The Salem-Keizer franchise (formerly the Bellingham Giants) returns professional baseball to the vicinity of the Oregon capital for the first time since 1989.

Spokane will play 10 games each against South Division teams Salem-Keizer, Portland, Southern Oregon and Eugene. The Indians will play North Division rivals Boise, Everett and Yakima 12 times each. Half of Spokane’s 38 home dates will be on weekends.
