Ex-Owner Of Kings Gets Prison Time, Fine
Former Los Angeles Kings owner Bruce McNall was sentenced Thursday to five years, 10 months in prison and ordered to repay $5 million for his admitted role in a scheme to bilk banks, a securities firm and the NHL team of more than $236 million.
McNall pleaded guilty more than two years ago to two counts of bank fraud and to single counts of conspiracy and wire fraud in connection with a scheme to defraud six banks, one securities company and the Kings. < Connecticut governor views new arena
Gov. John G. Rowland said the state will look into building a new arena for the Hartford Whalers so the NHL team could stay in Connecticut.
Rowland said he made the decision to pursue that possibility after being convinced by team owner Peter Karmanos and NHL commissioner Gary Bettman that the Civic Center, where the Whalers play, is inadequate.
