Backyard Bones Not Congressman
Forensic tests rule out the possibility that bones found in the back yard of a former president’s brother are those of a long-missing congressman, prosecutors said Friday.
Congressman Manuel Munoz Rocha disappeared shortly after the Sept. 28, 1994, assassination of the No. 2 man in Mexico’s ruling party, Jose Francisco Ruiz Massieu.
A special prosecutor had alleged that Munoz Rocha arranged the assassination on behalf of Raul Salinas de Gortari, and that Raul Salinas killed Munoz Rocha himself afterward.
Raul Salinas is the brother of then-President President Carlos Salinas de Gortari, and is the owner of the property at which the bones were found. He is already in jail on charges of wrongful enrichment and masterminding Ruiz Massieu’s murder.
