Douglas Hoffman Spokane

Memorial service for Douglas L. Hoffman, 65, will be at 2 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home.

Mr. Hoffman, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Thursday at home.

He retired from Kaiser Aluminum after 35 years. He invented, manufactured and distributed gem cutting equipment.

His wife, Kay Hoffman, died last November.

He is survived by a daughter, Rhonda Hoffman of Spokane; a son, Zane Hoffman of Clayton, Wash.; and six grandchildren.

Josephine Wunsch Spokane

Service for Josephine Wunsch, 87, will be at noon today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Private burial will be at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Mrs. Wunsch, who died Wednesday, was born in Washington state and was a longtime Spokane resident.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Sons of Norway and Trinity United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick Wunsch.

Mrs. Wunsch is survived by daughter, Linda Tyre of Las Vegas, Nev.; son, Dave Peterson of Priest Lake, Idaho; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Richard Geiger Spokane

Memorial service for Richard “Rick” Geiger, 38, is set for 1 p.m. today at the Spokane Stake Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Chapel. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Geiger died Thursday from accidental carbon monoxide poisoning while working on his car.

He was born in Pomeroy, Wash., and was raised in Spokane.

He worked as a carpenter for the past 20 years for contractors.

Mr. Geiger is survived by his wife, Julie; three children, Salina, William and Michael; three stepchildren, Michelle, Rebecca and Adam; his mother, Florabelle Mullan of Pomeroy; sister, Linda; two brothers, Rod and Ralph; grandmother, Betsy Geiger; and a granddaughter.

William Briscoe Sr. Spokane

Service for William Howard Briscoe Sr., 76, will be at 11 a.m. today at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 51. Cremation will follow.

Mr. Briscoe, who died Thursday, was born in Dubuque, Iowa.

He moved to Spokane in 1953 and worked for the Great Northern Railway and the Burlington Northern Railroad for 18 years before he retired.

He served in the Army during World War II and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 51.

He was married to Ella May Briscoe for 35 years and has been married to Mona Dempsey for 20 years.

Mr. Briscoe is survived by his second wife, Mona; three sons, William Briscoe Jr. of Rathdrum, Idaho, Jacob Briscoe of Florida and Patrick Briscoe of Spokane; two daughters, Alice Graf of Rathdrum and Gracie Barker of Spokane; 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Margaret Shriver Spokane

Memorial service for Margaret E. “Peggy” Shriver will be at 2 p.m. today at Manito Presbyterian Church. Private inurnment will be at St. Stephens Episcopal Church Columbarium. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Shriver died Thursday after a long illness.

She was born and raised in Sheridan, Wyo., and had lived in Seattle during the 1940s and 1950s. She came to Spokane in 1959.

That same year, her husband, Jim Shriver, accepted the golf professional position at Indian Canyon Golf Course. Mrs. Shriver ran the coffee shop at the course and was known for her homemade potato salad and meatloaf sandwiches. When her husband left Indian Canyon to take the position of head golf professional at Manito Country Club in 1965, she worked on sprucing up rental houses she and her husband bought on the South Hill.

They both retired in 1981.

Survivors include her husband; son, the Rev. Jack Shriver of Walnut Creek, Calif.; daughter, Jill Shriver Wallace of Bothell, Wash.; and five grandchildren.
