Chase Awards Add Different Age Divisions
Once again it is time to nominate outstanding young people for the Chase Youth Awards. But this year, there are a few added twists.
Instead of only one age group for competitors, the commission has divided entrants into two categories. The Youth Division is for students attending kindergarten through sixth grade and the Teen Division will include grades 7-12.
A new award called the “Jim Chase Memorial Award” has been created for adults who have taken an interest in bettering the lives of local youth.
Nominations are being sought in the following categories: Citizenship, Community Service, Courage, Creativity, Entrepreneurship, Environmental Concern, Leadership, Personal Achievement, and the “Spirit of Jim Chase” Group Award. Recipients in each category will be chosen by a selection committee appointed by the Chase Youth Commission.
Emphasis will be given to nominees whose significant contributions have been made in the recent past. Nominees must be from the Spokane area.
Judging will be based on the level of commitment to a specific goal or accomplishment, as well as the results of this accomplishment.
Nomination forms are available at City Hall, all public libraries, community centers, area schools or by calling the Chase Youth Commission at 625-6440.
All nominees will be honored with a certificate at the 10th annual Chase Youth Awards ceremony on March 25. Winners in each of the categories will receive a $100 Savings Bond.
The deadline for nominations is Feb. 19, so there’s no time to delay. Take the time and make the effort to show that special young person in your life that his or her efforts haven’t gone unnoticed.
