Irs Grants Relief In Disaster Areas

From Staff And Wire Reports

Residents and businesses located in Spokane, Whitman and Ferry counties are among those who will receive additional time to file forms or make tax payments, the Internal Revenue Service announced Tuesday.

The relief starts today, when payments on estimated taxes are due. If the payment is made by next Wednesday, no penalty will be imposed.

Employers will have until Feb. 18 to issue W-2 forms to employees. Interest and dividend statements from banks and corporations are also stayed until that date.

Deadlines for filing a variety of other forms have been extended to Feb. 18, too, as have those for some tax deposits.

In addition, the IRS will suspend seizures, summonses and other enforcement actions until Feb. 7.

Other relief may become available if the counties, and 26 others in Washington, are declared federal disaster areas. , DataTimes
