Brazen Thief Grabs Woman’s Purse

John Miller Correspondent

A 71-year-old Valley woman had her purse stolen Sunday evening while standing in her garage.

The woman, who lives in the 13700 block of East 30th, arrived home in her car about 7:15 p.m. and pulled into her garage.

A man approached the woman in her garage and asked directions. Once inside the garage, the man yanked the woman’s purse from her hands. He then ran to a red car parked at the intersection of 30th and Davis Road and fled north on Davis.

The woman suffered an abrasion that ran from her wrist down to the first knuckle.

“It’s pretty brazen that people are going into homes to commit these thefts,” said Sheriff’s Department spokesman David Reagan.

The woman described the suspect as white, between 5-foot-8 and 5-foot-10, and weighing about 180 pounds. He wore a dark jacket.

Sandwich shop theft

Employees at Subway, 2302 N. Argonne, chased a woman after she ran from the cash register and jumped into a waiting car.

Store managers checked the till after the 4 p.m. incident Friday and found that an undisclosed amount of cash was missing. An employee who had chased the woman from the store got the car’s license plate number. Deputies traced the car to a 22-year-old Valley man, who told deputies he had driven a woman away from the store after watching her being chased. The man said he knew the woman and “knew she had some enemies.”

Deputies later arrested Lisa M. Foster, 22, 11920 E. Mansfield, at her home. She was charged with second-degree theft.

Deputies seized clothing and a small amount of cash found inside Foster’s home as evidence.

Stolen credit cards recovered

What began as a routine traffic stop early last Thursday ended with deputies arresting a Valley man for possession of stolen credit cards.

Daniel J. Froelich, 1705 N. Marguerite, was a passenger in a car stopped at Sprague and Elizabeth for an equipment violation.

After officers identified Froelich, who was wanted on an outstanding warrant for driving with a suspended license, they found credit cards and several pieces of identification belonging to a Valley woman behind Froelich’s seat.
