Palmer Undergoes Successful Surgery, Rests Comfortably

Arnold Palmer underwent surgery for prostate cancer Wednesday and the procedure was considered a success, the Mayo Clinic said.

He was resting comfortably and was expected to remain hospitalized for several days as he recovers.

The 67-year-old golf star, who checked into the clinic Monday after learning last Friday that he had prostate cancer, will remain in this southeastern Minnesota city and continue recovering as an outpatient.

“I can only tell you that I talked to him (Wednesday) and he sounds good,” said Doc Giffin, Palmer’s spokesman. “He’s back in his room and is doing well.”

Palmer withdrew from the Senior Skins Game competition in Hawaii on Jan. 25-26. He was replaced in the four-man field by Lee Trevino.
