Gonzaga Rides Early Lead To Win

Sandy Gere scored six of her 11 points during a 14-point first-half run by Gonzaga as the Zags went on to defeat San Diego 54-47 in a West Coast Conference game Thursday night in Spokane.
Midway through the first half, GU (3-12, 1-2) took a 30-16 lead and led 38-24 at the half. With 1:36 remaining, the Toreros closed the score to 49-44. The Zags then held off the San Diego rally by hitting 5 of 8 free throws.
Melissa McCullough and Chelsea Herman had six rebounds each for Gonzaga. Herman also had a game-high eight assists.
Pat Sencion scored a game-high 12 points and Nailah Thompson grabbed nine rebounds for the Toreros (4-11, 0-3).
Montana State 59, EWU 55
In Big Sky play, Eastern Washington’s Kelly Bartleson hit a 3-point shot at :49 to tie the game at 55 before Montana State went on to beat the Eagles at Bozeman, Mont.
Blythe Hommes hit all six of her free throws in the final 1:48 to clinch the win for the Bobcats (9-6, 5-1). Hommes scored a game-high 20 points and teammate Tennyson Ballek pulled down 11 rebounds.
Tanya Kirk led the Eagles (4-10, 1-3) with 18 points and Jennifer Sutter had eight assists. Bartleson finished with 10 points.
