Leeb’s Overtime Goal Lifts Chiefs To Win, Above .500
The Spokane Chiefs are no longer your average hockey team.
For the first time in more than a month, the Chiefs moved above the .500 mark, beating the Edmonton Ice 4-3 in a Western Hockey League game on Thursday after Greg Leeb scored the game-winner 48 seconds into overtime.
Leeb hit a backhander on a pass from Ty Jones from the left corner as the Chiefs improved to 22-21-3, the first time they’ve been over .500 since Dec. 8.
Trent Whitfield scored two goals and had two assists for the Chiefs. Whitfield’s goal at 15:25 of the third tied the game at 3-all. Edmonton held a 3-1 lead in the second but Joe Cardarelli’s goal at 15:10 pulled the Chiefs to within 3-2.
Spokane, which travels to Red Deer for a game tonight, holds third place in the West.
