Group Makes Own Ru486

Sun-Sentinel

Delays in getting the abortion pill mifepristone, also known as RU486, approved by the FDA have led a small abortion rights group to take action.

Abortion Rights Mobilization, founded by Lawrence Lader, is manufacturing the drug in the United States and giving it away to certain doctors who are willing to test it in FDA-sanctioned tests.

ARM does not hold the patent rights to the drug, but is manufacturing it at a secret location anyway.

“Our manufacturer and capsulator (the company that puts the powder into capsule form) are both in the U.S., but we can’t say where, or there would be a bomb through the window,” Lader said.
