Mexico Boots Americans

Alberto Garcia Aspe scored in the second half and assisted on Zague’s first-half goal as Mexico beat the United States 2-0 in a U.S. Cup ‘97 match in the Rose Bowl.

It was Mexico’s first win against the Americans in the United States since 1974.

Mexico is 2-0 in the four-team round-robin international exhibition tournament. Mexico would win its second straight U.S. Cup with a win or tie against Peru on Wednesday.

The United States lost 1-0 to Peru in its U.S. Cup opener Friday. The United States, 0-2 in the tournament, will face Denmark on Wednesday.
