Sykora Continues Hot Streak
Austrian Thomas Sykora improved on his near-perfect record by winning his fifth World Cup slalom race this season to move closer to a championship in that event.
Sykora - a loser just once this season in the slalom - appeared invincible again while edging teammate Thomas Stangassinger and France’s Sebastien Amiez at Wengen, Switzerland. Sykora had a combined time of 1:34.03.
At Zwiesel, Germany, Pernilla Wiberg got closer to her proclaimed goal - successfully defending her World Cup slalom title - and even more with her fifth victory in what is shaping up as a dream season.
In addition to leading the slalom standings, the 26-year-old Swede is on top in the race for the giant slalom and overall titles.
