Cities Ask To Store Records Optically
Rep. Jim Clark, R-Hayden, introduced legislation to the House Local Government Committee on Wednesday that would allow cities to store, retain and reproduce documents through optical imaging.
According to the legislation, optical imaging includes the use of fax machines, magnetic tapes and disks, photographic film and optical disks.
Lila Truesdell, city clerk/ treasurer of Hayden, said that optical scanning will make keeping records much easier for city clerks.
Similar legislation was passed in 1994 and 1996 to give the same power to state and county governments respectively.
Truesdell and Clark alike felt that it was just an oversight that cities were left out of last year’s legislation.
