Guns Missing After Burglary

John Miller Correspondent

Three handguns were stolen Monday during a daytime burglary at a home in the 1100 block of North Vercler.

The burglary was discovered when a resident of the house came home from work at about 4:30 p.m. and found the back door smashed.

Along with the handguns, a video camera and jewelry were also from the home.

The loss of the guns, deputies said, might have been prevented.

“It’s important to safeguard all your valuables,” Deputy David Reagan said. “But a gun safe, if you’ve got firearms, is a good idea. If nothing else, it’s bigger and bulkier to haul away.”

Detectives described the missing weapons as a .32 caliber stainless-steel derringer with a wood handle, a .357 stainless-steel Ruger, and a dark-blue 9 mm pistol.

Investigators have no suspects in the case.

Burglar apparently scared away

When a man returned to his house near the 1600 block of North Union at 10 a.m. on Monday, he found several drawers open in his kitchen. He closed them and went downstairs, not giving the drawers a second thought.

It wasn’t until his wife arrived home three hours later and discovered drawers and closets ajar elsewhere in the house that the couple became suspicious. They called detectives finding the front door had been forced in.

Despite the open drawers and closets, the couple said nothing had been taken.

Reagan said it was possible the burglar was scared away before he could take anything. , DataTimes
