Canseco Set To Rejoin A’S

Compiled From Wire Services

Jose Canseco, his resentment toward Red Sox general manager Dan Duquette as fresh as the day manager Kevin Kennedy was fired, has been traded back to the Oakland A’s, where he will be reunited with Mark McGwire.

Canseco said the deal is contingent on passing a physical, which he claims will be a formality. In addition to unloading all but $500,000 of the $4.5 million salary of their oft-injured designated hitter, the Red Sox will receive 24-year-old pitcher John Wasdin.

San Diego police have sent the case of New York Yankees left-hander David Wells to the district attorney’s office, meaning he could face felony charges for a street fight on Jan. 12. Wells broke his pitching hand in the fight and will not be ready for the start of spring training.
