Three Public Meetings Planned On Urban Growth Boundaries

Residents concerned about urban growth boundaries will have a chance to voice their opinions next week.

A public meeting on proposed urban growth boundaries will begin at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Horizon Junior High, 3915 S. Pines.

Adopting urban growth boundaries will bring the county into compliance with the state’s Growth Management Act, determine where dense development will be encouraged and identify areas where lots smaller than 10 acres will be banned.

Thursday’s meeting is the first of three being held throughout the county.

Subsequent meetings will be on Feb. 3 at Cheney High School, 460 N. Sixth in Cheney, and Feb. 5 at Northwood Junior High, 13120 N. Pittsburg. Both begin at 6:30 p.m.

A meeting in the Spokane City Council chambers last week drew about 400 people.

Storm water runoff to be discussed

The Chester Creek Watershed Committee will host a public meeting Wednesday at Horizon Junior High to talk about a plan to manage storm water runoff.

The meeting is scheduled to run from 7 to 9 p.m. in the school’s cafeteria.

A presentation about what the Chester Creek committee has done to date and small groups discussions about the storm water issue are planned.

Information and comments gathered at the meeting will be used to help develop a plan that will be recommended to the county’s water quality advisory committee and county commissioners.

SCOPE coordinator to speak

The SCOPE East will hold its monthly meeting Wednesday at Otis Orchards Elementary, 22000 E. Wellesley.

Sheriff’s Lt. Garry Waterhouse will be the featured speaker at the 7 p.m. meeting. Waterhouse, the newly assigned SCOPE coordinator, will talk about how community policing works and his vision for the program.

The meeting is open to the public.
