Get A Hunch, Bet A Bunch

As often happens when short fields and wet tracks limit contention, today’s card presents some money-management challenges.

Sister Charlene in the featured sixth is unbeaten in three starts on wet tracks. Do you take a short price or do you dare bet against her? Too True Slew presents almost the same proposition in the first.

Gap Road looks like a lock in the fourth. Small Town Revel, an obvious contender in the fifth, hates the mud.

Do odds-on winners make it harder to get ahead? Five winners on Friday produced not a cent of profit and Saturday generated a small loss despite three wins.

Here are today’s selections:

FIRST: $10 to win on GHIN CHARD and $5 quinella with TOO TRUE SLEW.

THIRD: $10 to win on JUSTANOTHERBILL. Divide any winnings to win on GAP ROAD in the fourth and IRISH TURBAN in the fifth.

FOURTH: $20 to win on GAP ROAD and $5 quinellas with KEG DISCO and PLAY BOY PLAY ($10).

FIFTH: $10 to win on IRISH TURBAN.

SIXTH: $10 quinella pairing SISTER CHARLENE and BETSY’S FIRST.

Original bankroll: $2,000.

Saturday’s result: Lost $27.50

Present bankroll: $2,152.20.
