No Retirement Yet

Contrary to a report out of Australia over the weekend, Olympic track and field star Carl Lewis will extend his career beyond this year, his attorney said.

On the day he returned with Lewis from a week-long trip to New Zealand and Australia, David Greifinger said a story saying Lewis would retire in his hometown of Houston in June was simply not true.

“A couple of concepts got spliced,” Greifinger said by telephone. “He did say he would like to have his last meet in Houston, whenever that is. He certainly didn’t give a date.”

Lewis, 35, has won nine Olympic gold medals, including the long jump gold at the Atlanta Olympics last summer, and eight world titles.
