Assault Suspect Arrested After Standoff

Compiled From Wire Services

A Spokane man held police at bay for nearly five hours Wednesday before they rushed his house and arrested him on a domestic violence charge.

Police went to a house at 6814 N. Hamilton about 7:30 a.m. after a 31-year-old woman said she was attacked by a man who lived there.

The doors were locked and the man - 36-year-old William Harmon - refused to come out. Officers who called Harmon on the telephone said he threatened to shoot anyone who came through the door.

Negotiators talked to Harmon until about 12:30 p.m., when officers broke down a door and took him into custody. They found no guns inside.

Harmon was booked into jail on one count of fourth-degree assault for attacking the woman, police said.

Police did not disclose the woman’s name, the extent of her injuries or her relationship to Harmon.
