Commissioners Hire Gray As Staff Director

Bonner County Commissioners voted unanimously Wednesday to hire a staff director, appointing Diana Gray to the post.

Gray worked on an interim basis for the county several years ago, rewriting and cleaning up county planning and building laws. She was among three finalists who were interviewed for the new post.

Republican commissioners Larry Allen and Bud Mueller created the position when they took office earlier this month. It is part of a plan to reorganize county government and review county departments.

Gray will supervise all departments and employees that fall under the commissioners’ jurisdiction. She also will help draft public policy.

Commissioner Dale Van Stone initially objected to creating the new position, saying it duplicates the duties of county commissioners. He did, however, vote in favor of hiring Gray for six months, saying she has experience and worked well with the county in the past. Gray’s salary is expected to be in the $16,000 range.
