Local Gymnasts Excel At Sehome
The knock on Spokane gymnastics is that the scoring is easier here than on the west side of the state, resulting in U-Hi’s high state ranking.
But at the Sehome All-Around Invitational, GSL performers proved a point.
The league had five of the top nine all-around performers and several strong efforts in individual events.
In addition to finishing third overall, U-Hi’s Kalie Cossette was second on floor exercise, fifth on bars and sixth on beam.
Coleen Pierce was fourth overall and fifth on floor. Lindsay Brandle was ninth overall and sixth on bars. Tara Hulbert was second on bars.
The Titans actually scored higher during floor exercise than they had in GSL meets, but lower than usual in other events.
“We are still really struggling with beam,” said Heaton. “The problem in Sehome was we had 13 falls.
Cossette and Hulbert, normally reliable on vault, botched their routines.
“We were not as strong as we have been,” said coach Stacey Heaton. “The girls were excited to see how close we scored.”
Central Valley’s Lindsay Linerud finished fifth overall, placing eighth on floor and 10th on floor.
Teammate Sidira Sisich was second on vault and Lindsay Zacher was ninth on beam.
