Marijuana Plants Found In Home

From Staff And Wire Reports

Spokane police arrested two men Sunday after finding 100 marijuana plants growing in their basement.

Officers were sent to the 1500 block of East Illinois about 9:30 p.m. to check on a neighborhood dispute.

While there, one officer smelled the aroma of marijuana coming from the house at 1530 E. Illinois, police said.

Police knocked on the door and requested permission to search the house. The residents agreed, but refused to allow authorities into a locked room in the basement, police said.

Officers then obtained a search warrant. Police said they found the plants, marijuana trimmings, grow lights, timers, fans and a special soil mix in the room, along with two pistols and two rifles.

Officers arrested Joseph Jesse Richardson, 36, and Christopher E. Novak, 28, on suspicion of manufacturing a controlled substance.
