Grizzly Bear Reintroduction Plan Available For Public Review

A preliminary plan to reintroduce grizzly bears into the Bitterroot Mountains is available for public review.

The proposed rules and draft environmental impact statement call for using a citizen management committee for the project. Copies of both documents can be obtained by writing or calling the Grizzly Bear Coordinator, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, University Hall, University of Montana, Missoula, MT 59812. The information will be available soon on the Internet at http://www.r6.fws.gov/endspp/grizzly. Copies are also available at public libraries in the Bitterroot region of Idaho and Montana, and Spokane.

Comments on the proposal will be accepted through Oct. 9.
