Man Fined For Feeding Pretzels To Bear

Associated Press

A Bigfork man was ticketed and fined $100 after admitting to Glacier National Park rangers that he fed pretzels to a black bear.

Douglas L. Sinjem fed the bear from his car Wednesday morning while driving on Camas Road, Chief Ranger Steve Frye said. He was stopped after witnesses reported his licence plate to park rangers.

The bear must now be monitored to insure it does not seek out more human food, Frye said. In the past, rangers have had to kill bears that became accustomed to food provided by park visitors.
