Youth Hurt In Crash Near Newport

From Staff And Wire Reports

An Idaho teen remained in critical condition late Monday after the pickup truck he was driving hit a tractor-trailer earlier that morning.

Jesse Eller, 16, of Kamiah, Idaho, remained at Deaconess Medical Center with a broken arm, leg and internal injuries.

Eller was southbound on U.S. Highway 2 eight miles south of Newport at about 5:30 a.m. when he crossed the center line, hitting a semitruck driven by Matthew Decker, 36, of Spokane, the Washington State Patrol said. Decker was not injured.

A passenger in Eller’s vehicle, Brandon Shove, 17, of Rathdrum, Idaho, suffered a broken ankle.

Traffic along Highway 2 had to be rerouted for several hours. No tickets were issued at the scene.
